Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid — the same molecule your body makes to break down dietary fat. Injected into the submental fat pad (under the chin), it permanently destroys fat cells in that area.
Kybella is the right answer for a specific anatomy: a discrete submental fat pad in an otherwise lean patient. It is the wrong answer for skin laxity, jowls, or generalized fullness.

Kybella's active is deoxycholic acid. Injected at multiple points across the submental fat pad, it disrupts fat cell membranes; the cells die and are cleared by the body over 4–6 weeks. Multiple sessions are typical.
Significant swelling is expected for 7–10 days after each session. We schedule social patients accordingly — no major events for two weeks post-treatment.

Consultation
Pinch-test the submental fat. Confirm the patient is a candidate (not skin laxity).

Treatment
20 minutes. 20–50 small injections into the fat pad. Burning sensation for 5 minutes after.

Recovery
Significant swelling for 5–10 days. Compression chin strap recommended for the first 24 hours.

Results
Visible reduction at 4–6 weeks. Most patients need 2–4 sessions, spaced 6–8 weeks apart.
